GLP-1 medications: how to pay less.

Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Zepbound — affordability options.

GLP-1 agonists are increasingly prescribed for type 2 diabetes and obesity. They are also expensive, with cash prices over $1,000 per month for most formulations.

Why this matters for Black patients

Black adults have higher obesity and diabetes prevalence, but lower rates of GLP-1 prescription. When insurance denies coverage, the cash-pay path becomes essential.

Strategies to pay less

Manufacturer copay cards

Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly offer copay assistance for commercially insured patients. Eligibility for uninsured patients is more limited.

Manufacturer patient assistance

NovoCare Diabetes Patient Assistance Program covers Ozempic and Wegovy for eligible uninsured patients.

Telehealth options

Multiple telehealth services prescribe GLP-1s for cash, sometimes including compounded formulations. Verify provider credentials and pharmacy compounding standards.
