HIV Testing, PrEP, PEP + ADAP
Black-community HIV care, state by state
Of 36,801 new U.S. HIV diagnoses in 2022, 37% were among Black Americans — roughly three times our share of the U.S. population. These pages cover the four pillars of HIV prevention and care access for Black families, state by state: where to get tested, where to start PrEP, where to go in the 72-hour PEP window, and how ADAP works where you live.
Every figure is dated and sourced. The Ryan White Part B program names are pulled from the HRSA grantee list; the ADAP income caps come from NASTAD's 2024 Monitoring Project; new-diagnosis and PLWH counts come from the CDC HIV Surveillance Report; testing-site addresses come from CDC NPIN and from organizational websites we've verified directly.
The four pillars
HIV testing
Where do I get an HIV test?
Rapid-test locations, walk-in hours, confidentiality rules, and the Black-community testing sites that anchor access in every state.
Browse HIV testing →PrEP
How do I start PrEP?
Where to start daily-pill or injectable PrEP, state PrEP Assistance Programs, Ready Set PrEP eligibility, and named Black-community PrEP clinics.
Browse PrEP →PEP
I may have been exposed — where do I get PEP?
PEP works only if started within 72 hours of exposure. Where to go tonight, what it costs, and how cost assistance works in each state.
Browse PEP →ADAP
How do I afford my HIV medications?
ADAP pays for HIV medications for people living with HIV who qualify by income. Each state sets its own cap — this is where to find the number and how to enroll.

Methodology & data sources
Data sources, with refresh cadence:
- CDC HIV Surveillance Report 2022 (published 2024). Annual refresh.
- HRSA Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Part B grantee list, plus each state's health department HIV landing page. Quarterly spot-check.
- NASTAD ADAP Monitoring Project 2024 annual report for income caps + enrollment + PrEP-DAP. Annual refresh.
- AIDSVu state profiles for PLWH cross-check. Annual refresh.
- CDC NPIN partner directory + direct verification from organization websites for the testing-site list. Rolling refresh; every site carries its own last_verified_at date.
Where a state page carries a 'Data pending' banner, it means we could not find the figure in a primary source at the last refresh. Those pages are excluded from the sitemap until the gap is closed.
