How Black Health makes money

Black Health is an independent, for-profit publication. Nobody funds us to say anything, and the fastest way to lose the trust this site runs on would be to blur where the money comes from. So here is all of it.

Display advertising

Most pages carry display ads served through our ad management partner, Mediavine. Advertisers do not choose, see, or influence editorial content, and no article, review, or directory listing changes because of who is advertising.

Affiliate links

Some pages link to health services we have reviewed, such as at-home lab tests or telehealth providers. If you buy through one of those links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Our rules for these links:

• Every affiliate link is labeled at the link itself, with a disclosure like "Affiliate link, we may earn a commission," and is tagged rel="sponsored" so search engines treat it as commercial.
• Editorial rankings and review scores are set before, and independently of, any commission. A higher-paying partner does not outrank a better-scoring one on our review pages.
• Wherever we recommend a paid service, we name the free or lower-cost route first, including community health centers and clinics that charge on a sliding scale.
• A company may not appear beside reporting that warns about that company's own category. Our coverage of FDA actions on compounded GLP-1 medications, for example, never carries a compounded-GLP-1 vendor's link.
• Pages about crisis resources and emergencies carry no ads and no affiliate links at all.

The job board

Employers pay to post positions on our careers job board. Every listing is reviewed before it goes live. Payment buys placement on the board; it does not buy editorial coverage.

What is never for sale

• Directory listings are free. No provider pays to be listed in the provider directory, and no provider can pay for a higher position in search results. Verification is earned with a license and identity trail, not bought.
• Editorial coverage is not sponsored unless a page says so explicitly, and sponsored pages carry no additional affiliate links.
• Your data. We do not sell reader or patient information.
