PMID (PubMed identifier)
Also known as: PubMed ID
A PMID is a unique numeric identifier assigned to every article indexed in PubMed, the US National Library of Medicine's biomedical citation database. PMIDs let researchers, journalists, and readers locate a specific study unambiguously. The format is a 1-to-9-digit integer, e.g., PMID 27044069 for the Hoffman 2016 study on racial pain-perception bias.
On Black Health, every clinical claim is tied to one or more PMIDs so readers can verify the source themselves. See our editorial standards for the citation policy.
