Wegovy

Also known as: Branded semaglutide for weight loss

Wegovy is the branded semaglutide formulation approved by the FDA in 2021 for chronic weight management in adults with obesity or overweight plus a weight-related comorbidity. Same active molecule as Ozempic (which is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes), administered as a weekly subcutaneous injection.

List price runs $1,300-$1,800/month. Most commercial insurance plans require prior authorization; many do not cover GLP-1 for weight loss at all. Medicaid coverage for Wegovy is minimal in most states. See our Hims Weight Loss review for the self-pay access pathway and compounded alternatives.
