Medicaid coverage
Medicaid expansion: state by state
Whether the state has expanded Medicaid under the ACA.
Why this matters for Black health
Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act extends coverage to adults earning up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level. Black adults are disproportionately concentrated in the income bracket that benefits from expansion. In non-expansion states, more than two million people fall into a coverage gap with neither Medicaid nor subsidized marketplace plans available.
