Pelvic floor physical therapy is first-line treatment for urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, dyspareunia (painful sex), and postpartum dysfunction, yet Black women are dramatically less likely to be referred than white women. A 2020 Urology study found Black women with incontinence were 40 percent less likely to receive any conservative care referral before being offered surgery.
