ADRB2
Beta-2 Adrenergic Receptor
What it does
Receptor for beta-2 agonists (albuterol, formoterol). Variants influence asthma response.
Why this matters for Black patients
African-ancestry populations have higher frequencies of variants associated with reduced beta-agonist response and higher asthma exacerbation risk. This is one of several reasons asthma outcomes differ by race even when controllers are prescribed identically.
Common variants
| Variant | Phenotype | African | European |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arg16Gly | Functional variant | 0.450 | 0.390 |
