About Dr. Ly Franshaua Pipkins
Hello, I’m a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice, working primarily with women. Some of my particular areas of interest include: Black women who are first-generation college graduates and are navigating new professional and social systems Black women and other women of color (BIPOC) seeking a racially concordant provider Women who experienced early mother loss (ages 0–12) Perimenopause, particularly for women with histories of trauma/PTSD Anxiety, perfectionism, over-functioning, and relationship/dating concerns My approach is relationship-based, mindfulness-based, and nervous-system-informed. I offer telehealth throughout California, and I’m currently accepting new clients.

Approach to care
Before any technique or intervention, there is the relationship.
My work is psychodynamic and brain-informed. We explore the deeper patterns and experiences that shaped how you relate to yourself and others, while also working with the nervous system so that change doesn’t stop at insight.
Whether we’re using Brainspotting, somatic work, mindfulness, cognitive approaches, or nervous system-based interventions, the therapeutic relationship remains central. Research consistently shows that healing happens most deeply in the presence of safety, trust, attunement, and collaboration.
You never have to leave your humanity, culture, identity, or lived experience at the door to do meaningful therapeutic work.
Therapy should feel like a place where you can become more fully yourself—not less.

Introduction
Black patients and Psychology (PhD/PsyD)
Black psychologists (PhD/PsyD): therapy, assessment, neuropsychology. Fewer than 4 percent of U.S. psychologists are Black, so concordance matters deeply.
Only about 4 percent of U.S. psychologists are Black (APA, 2022), yet the demand is extraordinary. Black adults with major depression are half as likely as white adults to receive treatment, and Black youth suicide rates have doubled since 2007. Psychologists are doctoral-level providers who specialize in evidence-based therapy (CBT, DBT, EMDR), psychological testing, and neuropsychological evaluation. They do not prescribe medication. If you need meds, they partner with a psychiatrist or PCP.
