Best for Black adults with anxiety or depression, mild to severe, who want medication, therapy, or both, with weekly progress check-ins.

BetterHelp lets you check "Black therapist" as a preference when you sign up, but that is a request, not a guarantee. You can message your therapist anytime and switch with a click. It takes some insurance. Its therapists don't prescribe medication.
Best for Black adults who want to request a Black therapist, message between sessions, and switch easily if the first match isn't right.

Hims Mental Health is an online prescription service for men with anxiety or depression. A licensed provider can prescribe generics like sertraline or bupropion, from $49 a month. It isn't therapy, and it doesn't take insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid.
Best for Black men who want anxiety or depression medication online, will pay out of pocket, and already have a therapist or aren't looking for one.

Cerebral
Cerebral offers therapy and medication management on one platform and takes some insurance. In 2024 it agreed to pay more than $7 million to settle FTC charges over health-data sharing and cancellations, and it settled a federal investigation into its controlled-substance prescribing.
Best for Black adults who want therapy and medication management from one platform and have checked that their insurance is in network.

Each review is built from 4-6 hours of evaluation across four axes: cost (entry price, monthly average, hidden fees), coverage (commercial insurance, state Medicaid, HSA/FSA, sliding-scale), clinician fit (Black-clinician availability, cultural-competency training, language match), and service experience (intake questionnaire quality, matching speed, switching policy, cancellation friction).
We score 0.0 to 5.0 on each axis and weight the result. Reviews are refreshed at least every 6 months or whenever a service materially changes its pricing or coverage. Affiliate relationships are disclosed on every review and do not influence rankings.
