Mahmee

Mahmee is the most Black-maternal-mortality-aware online maternal-health platform, Black-founded with care coordination as the structural feature. Access depends on whether your Medicaid plan or employer contracts with them.

Best for Black mothers whose Medicaid managed care plan contracts with Mahmee, or whose employer benefits include the platform.

Talkspace

Talkspace offers therapy and psychiatry on one platform and takes most major insurance, plus Medicare for therapy. It says most insured members have a $0 copay. It doesn't take Medicaid, and it doesn't match you by a therapist's race.

Best for Black adults with commercial insurance or Medicare who want therapy, and medication if they need it, on one platform.

Brightside Health

Brightside offers psychiatry, therapy, or both, plus a Suicide Prevention Program for adults with elevated suicide risk. It takes most major insurance and some Medicare and Medicaid plans.

Best for Black adults with anxiety or depression, mild to severe, who want medication, therapy, or both, with weekly progress check-ins.

At-home lab tests

Everlywell

Everlywell is the most comprehensive at-home lab platform for Black patients, with sickle cell trait, hemoglobin A1C, hormone panels, and HIV testing all available without a doctor visit. Results are physician-reviewed.

Best for Black patients who want sickle cell trait screening, A1C monitoring, hormone panels, or STI testing without scheduling an in-person lab visit.

Mental health / therapy

BetterHelp

BetterHelp lets you check "Black therapist" as a preference when you sign up, but that is a request, not a guarantee. You can message your therapist anytime and switch with a click. It takes some insurance. Its therapists don't prescribe medication.

Best for Black adults who want to request a Black therapist, message between sessions, and switch easily if the first match isn't right.

Weight management / GLP-1

Hims Weight Loss

Hims Weight Loss is the most operationally reliable path to compounded semaglutide for Black women without insurance, but FDA enforcement against compounded GLP-1 may compress this option in 2026-2027.

Best for Black women who want a transparent monthly self-pay path to GLP-1 weight management and who are not eligible for branded Wegovy through insurance.

Roman (Ro)

Best for Black men who want anxiety or depression medication online, will pay out of pocket, and already have a therapist or aren't looking for one.

Dermatology / skin of color

Curology

Curology is a workable second choice for Black-skin acne and early hyperpigmentation, but the lack of explicit skin-of-color formulation training behind the prescribing makes it a downgrade from Apostrophe.

Best for Black patients with mild-to-moderate acne who want a prescription-strength regimen at a lower entry price than Apostrophe.

Weight management / GLP-1

Henry Meds

Henry Meds is competitive with Hims Weight Loss on price and medication menu, but operationally trails the public-company incumbents on reliability and customer-service consistency.

Best for Black patients who want flat-rate self-pay GLP-1 access and are price-shopping among compounded-semaglutide providers.

Rex MD is a credible second pick after Hims for ED, hair, and premature ejaculation telehealth, with cleaner pricing on specific products but a narrower overall menu.

Best for Black men price-shopping ED medication; specifically searching for premature-ejaculation treatment that Hims does not surface as prominently.

Cerebral

Cerebral offers therapy and medication management on one platform and takes some insurance. In 2024 it agreed to pay more than $7 million to settle FTC charges over health-data sharing and cancellations, and it settled a federal investigation into its controlled-substance prescribing.

Best for Black adults who want therapy and medication management from one platform and have checked that their insurance is in network.
